Appliance manufacture date lookup

How old is your appliance?

Choose the brand, enter the number from the rating label, and we will decode the manufacture date when the manufacturer format lets us do it reliably.

If a serial format does not identify one reliable manufacture year, the checker says so. It does not ask you to guess the decade.

Brands covered

Exact decoding where a reliable rule is available, and clear label guidance where it is not.

BoschBosch uses an FD production number. The checker can decode the production month and year from supported FD codes.
Date decoding
SiemensSiemens states that the FD number identifies the production date. The checker decodes supported FD codes to month and year.
Date decoding
NEFFNEFF uses the same BSH FD production number system. Supported four digit FD codes can be decoded to month and year.
Date decoding
SamsungSupported Samsung appliance serial formats encode year and month characters. The checker only returns a date when it recognises the published format.
Date decoding
BekoBeko documents a 10 digit serial format on selected tumble dryers and fridge freezers where the first two digits give the year and the final two give the month. Other Beko formats are not guessed.
Selected formats
WhirlpoolA Whirlpool technical manual documents a year and production week format for selected 24 inch dishwashers. The checker restricts that rule to matching dishwasher serials.
Selected formats
AmanaThe same Whirlpool technical manual covers selected Amana 24 inch dishwashers using the documented year and production week serial format.
Selected formats
RCAGE Appliances publishes a historic RCA date code table. RCA appliances in that system use the first two serial letters for month and year.
Date decoding
LGLG says the first serial digit indicates the manufacturing year and the next two digits identify the month. The year digit can repeat by decade, so the checker will not guess the exact year when the serial alone is ambiguous.
Serial guidance
AEGAEG states that the first serial digit is the year and the next two are the production week. Because a single year digit can repeat, the checker does not invent a decade.
Serial guidance
GE AppliancesGE Appliances uses the first two serial letters for month and year, but its year code repeats approximately every twelve years. If the serial alone maps to more than one year, the checker says the age cannot be determined.
Serial guidance
GE ProfileGE Profile uses the GE Appliances serial date system. Because year letters repeat, a serial can correspond to multiple manufacture years.
Serial guidance
CaféCafé publishes the same two letter month and repeating year system. The checker will not choose between possible years without enough information.
Serial guidance
MonogramMonogram publishes a two letter serial date system in which the year code repeats. The checker identifies when the number is ambiguous rather than guessing.
Serial guidance
HotpointHotpoint labels use a serial number, but we have not verified one generic current date rule that is safe to apply across Hotpoint appliances.
Serial guidance
IndesitIndesit appliances use serial numbers on the rating label. A single generic date decoder has not been verified for all current and historic Indesit formats.
Serial guidance
ElectroluxElectrolux serial formats vary by product and market. The checker provides label guidance but does not return an age unless a verified generic rule is available.
Serial guidance
ZanussiZanussi serial formats can vary. The checker does not infer a manufacture year from an unverified format.
Serial guidance
MieleMiele provides detailed data plate guidance, but the checker does not currently apply an unverified universal manufacture date rule to Miele serials.
Serial guidance
Fisher & PaykelFisher & Paykel provides appliance specific serial label guidance. A universal serial to date rule has not been verified for this checker.
Serial guidance
FrigidaireFrigidaire provides serial tag location guidance, but this checker does not use an unverified universal manufacture date formula.
Serial guidance
KitchenAidKitchenAid publishes detailed model and serial label locations. The checker currently avoids applying a generic date rule without a verified manufacturer source for that format.
Serial guidance
MaytagMaytag appliance serial formats can depend on platform and age. The checker does not guess from a generic pattern.
Serial guidance
BlombergBlomberg places the serial number on the appliance rating label. A universal manufacture date decoder has not been verified for all Blomberg products.
Serial guidance
CandyCandy asks customers for a 16 digit serial number for service. The checker provides label guidance but does not guess a manufacture year from that number.
Serial guidance
HooverHoover appliances use serial numbers for service and safety checks. No generic date formula is applied here without a verified rule for the specific format.
Serial guidance
HaierHaier asks customers to have the serial number available for service. The checker currently provides label guidance only because a universal date rule has not been verified.

What number should I enter?

That depends on the manufacturer. Bosch, Siemens and NEFF use an FD production number. Most other brands use a serial number. Select the brand first and the checker changes the field automatically.

The information icon beside the field shows where the rating label is normally found for the appliance type you selected. It floats over the form, so opening it does not move the check button.

Appliance age questions

Can a serial number tell me how old an appliance is?

Often, but not always. Some manufacturers encode a clear year and month. Others use a year code that repeats, or different formats across product ranges. This checker only returns a date when the rule is reliable for the number entered.

What happens if the year is ambiguous?

The result says “Age can’t be determined from this number for this brand.” The checker does not ask you to estimate a decade and does not pick a likely year.

What is an FD number?

On Bosch, Siemens and NEFF appliances, the FD number is a production code on the rating plate. It is separate from the E Nr model number and normal serial number.

Is manufacture date the same as purchase date?

No. An appliance may have been manufactured weeks or months before it was sold or installed.
