How old is my GE Appliances appliance?
GE Appliances uses the first two serial letters for month and year, but its year code repeats approximately every twelve years. If the serial alone maps to more than one year, the checker says the age cannot be determined.
Check your GE Appliances appliance
Select your appliance type and enter the serial number from the rating label.
Open the GE Appliances age checkerWhat number do I need?
For GE Appliances, the checker asks for the Serial number. The number is printed on the appliance rating plate or data label. Its exact location depends on the appliance type.
- Washing machines and dryers: usually inside the door opening or around the frame.
- Dishwashers: often along the top or side edge of the open door.
- Ovens: usually around the frame visible when the door is open.
- Fridges and freezers: commonly on an inside side wall or near the drawers.
Can the manufacture year be determined?
The manufacturer uses date information in the serial, but the year can repeat. If the exact year is not unique, the checker reports that it cannot determine the age.
The checker deliberately separates a manufacture date from a purchase date. A machine can sit in distribution or retail stock before it is sold.
Why the checker may refuse a number
Manufacturers can change serial formats across countries, factories, model ranges and time periods. A number that does not match a verified rule is not treated as evidence of a specific age. In that situation the checker gives a clear “Age can’t be determined from this number for this brand” result.
